For Unto Us a Child is Born

12-19-2021Weekly ReflectionRev. Victor C. Yakubu

The prophecy of Isaiah concerning the birth of a son was a soothing message for the people of Israel. When we read Isaiah chapters 7 and 9, we can see indications of the Lord’s desire to restore joy and happiness to his people. In Isaiah 7: 13-14 he says, “Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.” The name Immanuel means God is with us.

Indeed, God is with us as we continue the journey of life. This day we remember the great event of Bethlehem of Judea when the virgin gave birth to her son. We rejoice because that son is the King of our hearts. He has been born to teach us the ways of God. Isaiah 9: 6 says, “His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, Upon David’s throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains by judgment and justice, both now and forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this!” Truly the birth of this Child was a blessing to the world because peace came upon the earth; his love conquered all iniquities, and the restoration of human dignity was assured.

In this celebration, we remember the love of the Father who did not want the world to be destroyed by sin. He sent his only begotten son to assist in our redemption.

The book of Hebrews says, “For which of the angels did God ever say: I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me? Or again: I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me?” It was to Jesus that God addressed these endearments because God empowered him to superior then the angels.

What is the connection of this child to us? This child is the savior of the world, and he is the incarnate son of God, born to offer us salvation. We are all invited to share in the love of the Father for the world through the Son who came in human flesh. The gospel of John tells us, “He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of humans; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” By this golden revelation, we understand the plan of God to save us and redeem us back to his love.

This Christmas Day, the Lord wants you to open your heart to receive his abundant love so that you can show it to others as well. Take time to reflect about the birth of this child; a child that has become the King of our hearts and we can see the joys all over us.

Keep praying!
